This painting reflects the experience of physical collapse in a state of low energy. The body crumbles and is laid low for hours, days, or even weeks at a time. Life appears to be buried somewhere beneath the rubble, but it is often hard to find. Along with the collapse of the body is a collapse of life as I knew it, as my profession, activities, and identity markers break down. In process, the ways I made sense of myself in relation to others and the world around me fall apart. I must pick through the rubble in order to put my life together new ways, while also grieving the loss of what has collapsed.
